Introduction

:McGregor Clan: Scottish Maroon Tribe

The McGregor Clan, part of the Scottish Maroons, is a group with deep roots in cultural identity, historically known as the Amaru Indios, Mi'kmaq, and Algonquin people. This group, which represents approximately 0.7 percent of Scotland's total population, is often referred to as Afro-Scottish or Maroon Scottish, highlighting their heritage of African and African-Caribbean descent.

The McGregor story is a testament to survival and endurance amidst adversity. Often referred to as the Children of the Mist, the Clan faced severe Proscription for nearly two centuries, prohibiting male McGregors from using their surname, owning property, or even possessing a knife. They were hunted and persecuted, often by the Campbells. Many McGregors fled Scotland to Britain and England to escape this persecution, taking whatever wealth they had and investing it in business. Their descendants eventually ventured into the Caribbean islands, including Atlantis Xaymaca (Jamaica).

The legacy of the McGregor name endures, flourishing across England, Canada, the USA, South Africa, Spain, Ghana, and beyond. This resilience is thanks in part to the outlaw Rob Roy McGregor, who captured the public's imagination and helped ensure that the McGregor name would persist.

The term 'clan' derives from the Gaelic word for children, and being a member of a clan does not always denote direct relation to the chief. Those who served the clan often adopted the surname, while those seeking protection pledged allegiance to the chief. This collective bond meant they were united in service to their clan. Today, under Scots law and UN International Law (UN-ILO 169), anyone sharing the clan surname is considered part of this Sovereign and Royal Clan, reinforcing their Indigenous rights and cultural identity.

:McGregor Clan: Sovereigns Worldwide Human Rights

Promoting and protecting universally recognized human rights and fundamental political freedoms is essential for all peoples, including the McGregor Clan, who trace their roots back to the Maroons in Canada and the Scottish Maroons. As natives of Atlantis Xaymaca (Jamaica), North America, Scotland, Africa, and Spain, we assert our Indigenous rights and cultural identity, exercising our autonomy as granted by the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the 2007 United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This declaration emphasizes that 'All peoples have the right of self-determination,' allowing them to freely determine their political status and pursue their economic, social, and cultural development without outside interference. This fundamental right is enshrined in Article I of the Charter of the United Nations, highlighting its importance for maintaining friendly relations and peace among states. Furthermore, it is recognized in the General Assembly Resolution 1514 and various international covenants, affirming that the rights of all peoples, including the Maroons, must be respected and upheld.

Portrait of Kenneth MacAlpin, 1st King of Scotland, wearing a golden crown and royal red cloak.

Kennet MacAlpin was the significant King of Dál Riada, King of the Picts, and the King of Alba, playing a vital role in shaping the cultural identity of Scotland. He inherited the throne of Dál Riada from his father, Alpín mac Echdach, who was the founder of the Alpínid dynasty. This legacy is notable in the context of indigenous rights, as it intertwines with the history of the Scottish Maroons, particularly the Maroons in Canada, who also reflect a rich cultural heritage. Born in 810 AD on Iona, United Kingdom, Kennet MacAlpin passed away on February 13, 858 AD, in Scotland, United Kingdom. His lineage, linked to the McGregor Clan, continues to resonate in discussions about Scotland's diverse historical narratives.

Portrait of Sir Rob Roy McGregor, a Scottish folk hero.

Rob Roy, known by the name Robert McGregor (baptized March 7, 1671, Buchanan, Stirlingshire, Scotland—died December 28, 1734, Balquhidder, Perthshire), was a noted Highland outlaw whose reputation as part of the McGregor Clan has always been linked to the cultural identity of the Siol Alpin, derived from the Gaelic Siol Ailpein, meaning Seed of Alpin. This connection resonates with the broader context of Indigenous rights and the historical narratives of groups such as the Scottish Maroons and the Maroons in Canada.
